I don't think so. I don't think anything ever really ends. Everything that happens creates or incurs some consequence. It's fun to think about common stories and their possible backstories or the events after the traditional ending. For example, what happened after the movie The Shawshank Redemption ended? Or Seven, American Beauty, Taxi Driver, or Ernest Goes to Camp. I guess that's why sequels are made. Although, many shouldn't.

I wonder what happened to Elliot from E.T. He probably attended a media circus for a while even though the FBI originally tried to keep everything under wraps. Eventually his Dad would comeback, without Sally, and it would just be a bad scene. Michael would find God and discover a world of power in local churches, eventually develop a drinking problem and be found as a fraud. It's a pity, though, because he really isn't a bad person; he just made some bad choices in attempting to cope with an odd adolescence. He and Elliot remain close. Their little sister, Gertie, lived with their mom until she was nearly 30, working while trying to obtain a degree from the local community college. She found a good job and a better man, and she has a relatively nice life. The mother, Mary, remarried nearly a decade after E.T.'s departure. They're still married today. As for E.T.? Sadly, he was quarantined and died two days later from complications. Elliot felt nothing.
