The other day my friend said she has no sympathy for homeless people. She said it with the shake of her head and very punctual, as if swallowing a bitter pill. Maybe deep down she knows that's a bad line of thought. I completely disagree with her. As my favorite author might say, they never asked to be born in the first place. That might sound like a stupid argument, but the point is this: what are here for anyway? What is all that different about us? I guess my friend assumes the worst about a homeless person--that he is lazy and/or a drunkard. Maybe he was forced into a terrible life, with no good people in his life to teach him the skills necessary to get out of it.
You could have been born into his situation.
