Elian Gonzalez

Today I bought Punk-O-Rama 3 and 4. I love 'em to death. I rode through Norwood on the way home. It seems like everyone was out and about more than is usual. I really like Pennywise.

Who is wise? He that learns from everyone. Who is powerful? He that governs his passions. Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that? Nobody.
Benjamin Franklin

I've been looking up quotes recently. You can find a lot of my favorites on the Quotes page of my public site. There are almost 200 right now. I don't know why, but I love 'em. Ol' Ben and I would probably have disagreed on some things, but he spoke with lots of wisdom in most instances. He also said, "If men are so wicked with religion, what would they be if without it?" It's amazing how some things don't change. That reminds of one of my favorite Simpsons jokes. Two disc jockeys are trying out a large machine that may take their place on the air waves. The machine says something like, "Those clowns in congress did it again. What a bunch of clowns." One of the jockeys says, "How does it keep up with the news like that?" Ingenious.

I've always thought that underpopulated countries in Africa are vastly underpolluted.
Lawrence Summers, chief economist of the World Bank, explaining why we should export toxic wastes to Third World countries.

Another reason why this is a corrupt world full of phonies.

OK, I won't go any further in that direction. Here are some fun/interesting quotes I've gathered.

  • Ninety-nine percent of lawyers give the rest a bad name.
  • Happiness is good health and a bad memory.
  • The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.
  • Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
  • The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.
  • There's many a bestseller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.
  • Woman was God's second mistake.
  • Some editors are failed writers, but so are most writers.
  • In America, anybody can be president. That's one of the risks you take.
  • Men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all the other alternatives.
  • Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.
  • Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe.
  • Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so.
  • The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in opposite directions.
  • It is much more comfortable to be mad and know it, than to be sane and have one's doubts.
  • The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. The opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.
  • Wise men make proverbs, but fools repeat them.

...Whoops!

I already know who'll get my vote.
